Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon may be split when it comes to settling their divorce, but they’re being forced to fight together in dealing with another major legal matter: their nanny.
The famous couple’s nanny filed a lawsuit against them after claiming they fired her for showing too much affection to their children.
According to TMZ, Simone DaCosta claims she took care of the children when they were still infants. She fed, bathed and comforted them, which resulted in Mariah letting her go.
DaCosta says the singer scolded her for showing the children too much love and affection; thus claiming Mariah was essentially jealous of the relationship the nanny had built with the children and didn’t want it to overshadow her as a mother.
Mimi has even admitted to that herself. In an interview last year, she said, “I fire nannies like this,” snapping her fingers. “But I have to because if they try to make themselves more important in the babies’ minds than me…” she drifted off as she made a throat-cutting motion.
DaCosta is also declaring she worked a ton of overtime, often 100 hours or more a week, without compensation. She is seeking pay and other damages.
Meanwhile Carey and Cannon, who split in Aug. 2014, are still deep into their divorce. The 34-year-old America’s Got Talent host quietly filed for divorce in Dec., though the news only hit the tabloids last week. The took the months of separation to work out a settlement.
