Leonardo DiCaprio gave everyone a chance to forget about his beard for a second and focus on something more important on the weekend: the environment.

DiCaprio, 39, was just one of hundreds of thousands of people who took part in the People’s Climate March in New York City on Sunday.

The Oscar-nominated actor and other famous faces, including Mark Ruffalo, Edward Norton and Sting, marched on the streets of Manhattan in an historic call for climate change.

According to organizers, an estimated 400,000 took to the streets of Manhattan on Sunday, surpassing early reports of 150,000 supporters.

Later in the day, DiCaprio suited up to receive an award at the 8th Annual Clinton Global Citizen Awards. World Wildlife Fund President and CEO Carter Roberts presented the award to the movie star for his continued efforts in protecting the environment.

“Together we can find ways to scale up funding and create intelligent partnerships,” DiCaprio told the gala crowd, which included former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Eva Longoria and Seth Meyers.

On Saturday, DiCaprio was named the new UN Messenger of Peace by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at a special ceremony in the Big Apple. The Wolf of Wall Street star is scheduled to open the 2014 Climate Summit on Tuesday.
