Music’s beloved tragic figure and Our Lady of Summertime Sadness Lana Del Rey is opening up about what went wrong in her relationship with rocker Barrie-James O’Neill.
Speaking with Canada’s Fashion magazine, the songstress explains why she called off her engagement with her longtime beau earlier this year, telling the publication that their romance was “very rewarding, but very difficult.”
“I’m a dark character and he very is an even darker character than I am. Trying to get some consistency and some normality within the dynamic of that relationship has been impossible,” she says of their broken engagement, adding that her song “Shades of Cool” is about her ex-fiance.
She adds, “He’s unwell and I’m unwell in some ways, and psychologically we’ve been through a lot together.”
Despite calling it quits with O’Neill after three years of dating, the singer is still holding out for love. Since the break-up, the 29-year-old have moved onto director Francesco Carrozzini, who directed the Del Rey’s music video for “Ultraviolence.“
“I would love to find someone I could share my life with and be married to,” she says. “I would love children, too. Hopefully they’re not as bad as I am.”
