Kelly Clarkson opened up to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live last night (March 5, 2015) and revealed that her “pitchy strippers” comment directed at the performers of the 2013 VMA’s that year was not actually about Miley Cyrus, and her infamous performance groping, grinding and twerking to “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke.
While sipping on red wine, she also spoke about dating her former American Idol and From Justin to Kelly co-star Justin Guarini.
Cohen started to ask her, “Would you still liken Miley Cyrus’ singing to a “pitchy stripper,” or has she been able to—”
Clarkson interjected, “I never said Miley Cyrus! The fact that I tweeted ‘pitchy stripper’ and people thought Miley Cyrus is not my problem. I’m just saying!
“Never said Miley Cyrus, my man.”
But relive Cyrus’s performance from that year, and one can understand the mix up. Even if her snarky tweet was about Cyrus, she wasn’t the only person who had something to say about Cyrus’s latex getup and tongue being center stage that night.
Cohen tried to clarify and asked, “Was it not Miley Cyrus?” But Clarkson wouldn’t let up, and replied “I am not saying who it was because if I say it’s not, then you’re going to guess somebody else! You’re trying to manipulate me! I’m going to drink more. Soon I’ll say the truth, and then I can blame it on the alcohol!”
As for if her comment may have been about Katy Perry or Nicki Minaj (who also performed that night), the singer would only say that they’re “lovely girls.”
Cohen then brought up blast from the past (and actually, where is he now?) Guarini, American Idol‘s first season runner-up to Clarkson and her co-star in the movie she never wanted to actually make.
“Last year Justin Guarini made some comments in his one man show, Lovesick, that you two had a fling going on during your feature film, From Justin to Kelly,” Cohen said. “Set the record straight. What happened between the two of you: second base—?”
Clarkson revealed, “We didn’t date during Idol, which everybody thought we were dating. We did date during…I feel like we weren’t dating during the movie. But I feel like maybe we did.”
She went on to say, “We did date a little bit. I think any two people who are thrown together that much… ‘Timeless,’ you put that song on From Justin to Kelly—you can’t fight it!”
