Kanye West Crying and 10 Other Highlights from His BBC Interview With Zane Lowe

By Celebrity News Wire on February 26, 2015

Kanye West On BBC Radio 1
Kanye West has a lot to say. Like, A LOT to say.

Kanye for the TL;DR Audience
Here's what you need to know about Kanye West's lengthy interview with 'GQ' magazine.

It’s no secret that Kanye West always gives a good sound bite.

So naturally, when Yeezy reunited with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe just 16 months after their first unforgettable meeting, Yeezy had a lot of quotable things to say. During the 43-minute one-on-one, West touched upon everything from music and fashion to his family life. Hell, the usually stone-faced rapper even broke down in tears at on point.

Here are the highlights from his lengthy interview.

1. He Has Feelings

While discussing one of his mentors, the late fashion professor Louise Wilson, West got choked up and started to quietly cried. “Last time I saw her, we had dinner at Hakkasan, which is my favorite restaurant in London. And I think she knew that she was going to pass,” he recalled. “I didn’t know we were going to lose her…and she told me, she said, you know, ‘Thank you for the times where I came to performances and this has like really meant a lot to me, with…” After trailing off and quietly sobbing into the microphone with his face in his hands, West was excused. “That’s never happened to me in an interview before,” he said when he returned. “I think I’m good.”

2. He’s Very Direct When It Comes to Kim Kardashian

“I did not know how to communicate at all. I had my point. My message was simply, ‘Your egg. My semen. We change the world.'”

3. He’s Trying for a Second Child

“I’m practicing really hard. I try as many times a day as I can,” he said, before referring to his daughter North. “Nori, this one’s for you. You need a sibling.”

4. He’s Team Drake All the Way

“Let’s be respectful and truthful: the hottest rapper in the game.”

5. Contrary to Popular Belief, He Will Put His Infamous Ego Aside

“If I meet someone I respect or look up to, I will literally kiss their feet.”

6. He Doesn’t Care What You Think of Him

“I didn’t come here to be liked; I came here to make a difference.”

7. Like, He’s SUPER Team Drake

“He’s delivering a level of product to humanity that is of high quality,” he says of the Canadian rapper. “I don’t have any advice for this young man, but what I can say is run, fly, go as fast as you can, don’t stop. And any time I can be of any service, any advice — whatever you need… anything that we can collectively do to deliver more awesomeness to the world as a team.”

8. He’s Also a Fan of His Doorman

“I know I said, ‘Black lives matter.’ But all lives matter. My doorman is more important to me than anyone at a company. He keeps us safe.”

9. He’s Still Not Done Talking About THAT Grammys Moment With Beck

“It’s arguable that the album might have been better But the Grammys sell commercial time.”

10. Overall, He’s Totally Over the Grammys

“The Grammys are like an ex-girlfriend. As soon as you get in the car with them, you want to go right back home.”

11. He’s Really Sorry That You Can’t Afford His New Adidas Line

“I want to apologize to everyone right now because I believe Season 1 might still be in that upper price point and there’s still the word ‘exclusivity’ being thrown around,” he said. “Exclusivity is the new n-word. Nothing should be exclusive. Everyone should have the opportunity to drink from the same fountain.”
