The White House has finally responded to a petition asking for Justin Bieber to be sent back to Canada and it’s the first good news the troubled pop star has heard in months.
Back in January a petition titled “Deport Justin Bieber and Revoke his Green Card” received over 200,000 signatures asking that the Canadian native leave the U.S. The petition was created in response to Bieber’s DUI arrest in Florida.
In response to the request from the American people, the White House has dodged the bullet and decided no comment is the best way to go. They also used the opportunity to touch base on the importance of Immigration Reform.
Thanks for your petition and your participation in We the People.
Sorry to disappoint, but we won’t be commenting on this one.
The We the People terms of participation state that, “to avoid the appearance of improper influence, the White House may decline to address certain procurement, law enforcement, adjudicatory, or similar matters properly within the jurisdiction of federal departments or agencies, federal courts, or state and local government in its response to a petition.”
So we’ll leave it to others to comment on Mr. Bieber’s case, but we’re glad you care about immigration issues. Because our current system is broken. Too many employers game the system by hiring undocumented workers, and 11 million people are living in the shadows.
You can read the entire statement here.
And in case you’re wondering why this is even a thing, the law requires an official response to any petition that receives 100,000 signatures within a window of 30 days. Remember when the government decided that building a Death Star wouldn’t be the best use of your tax dollars?
