After being accused of photoshopped ads for his Calvin Klein campaign, Justin Bieber is proving to the world that his body really is as ripped as it looks, going shirtless and baring it all for Men’s Health.
But the article that accompanies the hot, muscly photo spread goes beyond his new body and his fitness routine. He also opens up about his life, growing up and becoming a new man.
“This has really been a big year for me, as far as figuring stuff out,” he tells the magazine back in January. “This is almost like a full 180 from how I was. Yesterday—a year from yesterday—I was in jail,” recalled his infamous DUI arrest in Jan. 2014 in Miami.
Bieber certainly holds himself accountable, explaining that his younger brother and sister make him want to be a better man, and he one day hopes to be considered a “class act.” However, he knows some of his troubles have stemmed from growing up in the public eye.
“I had to grow up so quick,” he explains. “And it was almost like I grew up for the public but I didn’t necessarily grow up. There were things I had to do, as far as the way I had to make relationships, and conversation, but as far as actually growing up, there were a lot of things I missed out on.”
But while he hopes to move forward from his immature history, he also admits, “There’s a part of me that I don’t ever want to grow up. I want to always remain…to have that sense of purity inside of me where I don’t…I don’t want to lose that sense of purity.”
Bieber says one of the biggest misconceptions about him is that he’s self-centered. In fact, he loves being involved with another person. “I’m very much a relationship guy,” he reveals. “I like to bounce ideas off the person that I love. I like having a real connection.”
Of course we all know one of the realest connections he’s ever had was with Selena Gomez. After several years of an on-and-off relationship, the two finally called it quits at the end of last year. Both have suffered quite a bit since but appear to be in a better place today.
In fact, Bieber revealed the idea for his next tattoo:”I want ‘LL’ tatted right here [chest],” he explains. “When you’re Low, Lift. Because we often want to keep our heads down. But we should lift our heads.”
