Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks’ Racially Fueled Feud Explodes on Twitter

By Celebrity News Wire on December 19, 2014

They’re at it again.

Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks just took their feud once step further, hurling insults at one another on Twitter after Banks slammed Azalea in a Hot 97 radio interview.

The online spat initially ignited when Banks suggested that her music nemesis only received Grammy nods because she’s white, saying, “That Iggy Azalea shit isn’t better than any fucking black girl that’s rapping today. The Grammys are supposed to be accolades of artistic excellence. Iggy Azalea is not excellent.”

Arguing that Azalea is receiving acclaim for appropriating black culture, Banks continued, “When they give these Grammys out, all it says to white kids is, ‘Oh yeah, you’re great, you’re amazing, you can do whatever you put your mind to.’ And it says to black kids, ‘You don’t have shit. You don’t own shit, not even the shit you created for yourself.’ And it makes me upset.”

After the interview, Azalea took Twitter to defend her music and recent nominations, telling her rival:

However, Banks wasn’t about to back down so easily. Soon after Azalea tweeted her thoughts on the matter, the “212″ rapper fired back at the Australian emcee. Name-calling her “Itchy Areola,” Banks wrote on Twitter:

This heated Twitter exchanged came just weeks after Banks called out Azalea for essentially not caring about black issues while cities around the U.S. were calling for justice for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. At the time, Azalea accused Banks of using real world issues “as an excuse to promote fan battles.”

“Make sure you do something to let YOUR government know how you feel when something is unjust., not JUST your followers on twitter…” Azalea wrote. “Make sure you sign petitions, hit the streets and protest or donate to groups helping to support and rebuild the community too.”
