Hilary Duff’s New Album Will Feature a Song About Her Split From Mike Comrie

By Celebrity News Wire on August 1, 2014

Hilary Duff (aka Lizzy McGuire, aka H.R. Duffnstuff) just #blessed us with “Chasing the Sun,” her first single and music video in seven years, and she’s preparing to deliver unto us mere mortals even more new music.

Duff appeared on Billboard’s most recent Pop Shop Podcast to talk about her new album as well as her “difficult” separation from Mike Comrie.

During the interview, Duff reveals that she started writing the album again while she was pregnant with her son, Luca.

“Yeah, I was about to give birth. I was actually pregnant, and I had like two months to go. I was just like… a house, walking around. And, I don’t know, I just started writing a lot out of nowhere. I don’t know if it was because I was all hormonal and emotional, but I started writing and I kind of took it as a sign of, like, ‘I’m missing that part of my life. I’m really missing that connection that I had with my fans.’”

She then says that she didn’t actually get “ready” until a year after giving birth. As it turns out, the wait was worth it; critical reception for “Chasing the Sun” has been pretty positive. Later in the interview she talks about the as-yet-untitled album as it relates to her recent separation from her husband, Mike:

“I think when I first started, you know, I was… I’m, you know, separated from my husband right now, which [has] been a very difficult thing to go through. But we have a lot of love for each other, and we have this beautiful baby, and I think in the beginning the album was a lot heavier and a lot darker, ‘cuz I think I just needed to get that out. Once I did get that out, a lot of fun came. [...] The album is very positive, very up, but it does talk about… There’s a song called “If I Fall,” which is about me taking a step back and kind of like shutting down my whole business.”

Also featured on the album, she says, are a lot of “party songs” as well as “a song about Luca” and “a song about my separation and my love for this person that maybe we’re not meant to be together, or maybe we are… it’s very, very personal.”

Duff also briefly talked about working with Ed Sheeran: “It was amazing to have him there and to have him be so involved. And it scared the sh*t out of me too.”

You can listen to the entire interview at Billboard. (Duff’s part starts around 22:56.)
