Hold the phone.
Just days after Billboard published an article in which Khloe Kardashian‘s boyfriend, French Montana, was quoted as saying he wants to “capitalize” on the reality star’s fame, the “Don’t Panic” rapper is backtracking on his controversial comment.
Speaking with Access Hollywood, Montana is now saying that his words were taken out of context, insisting that he is not using his girl’s Kardashian empire to boost record sales.
“I was so mad about that,” he says of the eyebrow-raising statement that has been making headlines. “If I’m with somebody, I’m not with them for that reason.”
In fact, the 29-year-old, who stepped out publicly with Kardashian, 30, in April, says that he has a love-hate relationship with the exposure he gets from dating the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star.
“I hate being on camera,” he explains. “Sometimes you’re not ready for it and it’s too much pressure, but I [also] love it. But I hate how it happened … all the commotion.”
Despite Montana’s insistence on being with Kardashian for love rather than fame, it seems his girlfriend is indifferent to the whole situation. When the Billboard article went to press, Kardashian tweeted a cryptic message that seemingly addressed the matter. It read:
It’s amusing to me that Y’all think I don’t see it. I was the first one to see it. I just don’t care.
