After a very quiet pregnancy, and even more hush-hush baby delivery, Eva Mendes is ready to spill the beans about her daughter with Ryan Gosling.
Speaking with Violet Grey’s The Violet Files, the new mom gushes about her baby, explaining to the digital magazine just why she and her longtime boyfriend chose the name Esmeralda Amada for their first child together.
“Ryan and I both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and we just think it’s a beautiful name. Amada was my grandmother’s name. It means ‘beloved’ in Spanish,” the actress says.
Mendes, 40, and Gosling, 34, welcomed Esmeralda at the Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif. on Sept. 22 at 10:22 a.m. The couple did not confirm the baby news at all for the entire duration Mendes’ pregnancy — something that the Lost River star says she insisted upon when she was expecting.
“Whether we like it or not, privacy is going to be very difficult for Esmeralda. I think it’s unfair, but that’s our reality,”Mendes explains. “Ryan and I decided early on to give her as much privacy as we could. And my pregnancy was the first opportunity to give her that.”
