Did One Direction Plagiarize Someone Else Again?

By Celebrity News Wire on September 30, 2014

It seems like One Direction is accused of plagiarism every time they drop new material. So naturally, the boys have been hit with allegations of stealing another person’s work when their new single, “Steal My Girl,” premiered online.

Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams threw some #truthtea in Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne‘s faces Monday, claiming the boy band had ripped off from pop-punk group New Found Glory‘s 2006 single, “It’s Not Your Fault,” on their new song.

Williams, who is currently dating NFG guitarist Chad Gilbert, tweeted about the opening piano hook from “Steal My Girl,” writing:

Gilbert himself also casted some heavy shade upon The X Factor alums, sarcastically applauding the young Brits of taking “reworking” the hook of his song, before backtracking on his comments in fear of the wrath from crazed 1D fans. (Spoiler alert: It didn’t really matter and he still received plenty of hate.)

However, upon learning that 1D fans will never really stopped annoying people who have scorned their idols, Gilbert changed his tone again and called on the band to put a stop to the hateful tweets Directioners were sending out (a.k.a. the Drake Bell approach to an Internet flame war).

Regardless of who copied who or whether or not both New Found Glory and One Direction may have stolen said catchy melody from Journey’s 1985 songFaithfully,” one thing is clear: 1D fans get super crazy.
