Christian Bale may have passed to Batman torch to Ben Affleck, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still be a little upset about losing his Caped Crusader role.
Speaking with Empire magazine, Bale, who starred as Gotham’s superhero in all three installments of Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight trilogy, admits that he wasn’t ready to hang up his cape for good just yet when it was announced that Affleck will be stepping in as his new successor.
“I’ve got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always a bit of me going, ‘Oh, go on … Let’s do another,’” the Oscar winner says. “So when I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour.”
“But I’m 40. The fact that I’m jealous of someone else playing Batman…I think I should have gotten over it by now,” Bale continues. “I haven’t spoken with Ben, but I emailed him offering bits of advice that I learned the hard way. I would imagine he is doing everything he can to avoid anything that I did.”
Though fans have yet to see any previews of Affleck as the crime-fighter in Zack Snyder‘s upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the actor has already received heavy backlash over the casting decision. God speed, Batfleck.
