Cheryl Cole Had Military Training for Afghanistan Trip

Cheryl Cole, pictures, picture, photos, photo, pics, pic, images, image, hot, sexy, latest, new, 2011LOS ANGELES – Cheryl Cole took part in a mock battle with British troops in Afghanistan yesterday.

The 'Fight for This Love' singer - who is currently on a morale boosting visit to Helmand province in the war torn country - was issued with army fatigues and an SA80 rifle before joining soldiers in a training exercise, which involved helping to carry an injured soldier to a Chinook helicopter.

Speaking about the experience, Cheryl told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I went into the room and heard an explosion. It was scary. I was terrified. I'm not ashamed to say I screamed and uttered a few expletives.

"I always had admiration for what the guys do out here, but seeing them here at work is awe inspiring. I'm delighted to be here to recognize all the hard work they do. Every one of them is a hero in my book."

The troops were impressed with Cheryl's dedication, admitting they were surprised she had thrown herself into training and dubbed her "one of the lads".

Task Force Helmand chief Lieutenant Colonel Tim Purbrick said: "When everyone heard she was coming we did not know what to expect as she's a huge star. But whatever preconceptions we had went out of the window as soon as we met her. Her smile is infectious, she was up for doing everything we suggested. She was like one of the lads."

Cheryl also drove a Jackal armored fighting vehicle and fired a 30mm cannon before signing autographs and posing for pictures.

Along with boosting morale on the ground, Cheryl delighted members of the 20 Armored Brigade on the 12 hour RAF flight to Helmand by serving meals and drinks to the troops.
