Michael Douglas locks lips with Matt Damon in the upcoming HBO biopic Behind the Candelabra, about Liberace and his lover, Scott Thorson. But, like any doting husband, he kept wife Catherine Zeta-Jones on his mind the entire time.
“When Matt Damon was kissing Michael, I found [out] — which is very flattering for me — he closed his eyes and pretended he was kissing me,” Zeta-Jones told Celebuzz while promoting her new movie, Side Effects. “I just thought that was one of the biggest compliments I’ve ever had!”“If my husband’s going to kiss anyone else in the world, I’m so happy it’s Matt Damon,” she added with a laugh.
Opening Friday, Side Effects — which tells the story of a doctor (Jude Law) whose life falls into shambles after he prescribes a drug to a woman (Rooney Mara) battling depression — reteamed Zeta-Jones with director Steven Soderbergh for the third time (after Traffic and Ocean’s Eleven, respectively), which was something she couldn’t wait to experience.
“He rubbed my feet when I was pregnant on Traffic and that’s the only reason why I keep coming back,” she joked about the Oscar-winning filmmaker. “He looked after a pregnant woman so well, I just knew I’d always be in good hands.”The film, in which she plays Dr. Victoria Siebert, also allowed her to do a little same-sex kissing of her own, with co-star Rooney Mara.
“I just wish she were prettier, that’s the only thing,” Zeta-Jones quipped. “She’s not funny, she’s not pretty, she can’t act.”
