Will Ferrell’s on-screen persona is certainly not mirrored in his architectural style.
The Hollywood funnyman opts for sophistication when it comes to his downtown Manhattan pied-à-terre, which he shares with his Swedish wife, auctioneer Viveca Paulin-Ferrell, and their three children.
According to Architectural Digest, the Old School actor has converted his Victorian-era printing factory into a contemporary space with sleek surfaces, but not without preserving precious architectural details serving as a backdrop for the 20th-century interior. 45
But the nearly 2,8000-square-foot space has certainly been modified since it was purchased in 2010.
“It was very dark and heavy,” explained interior designer Shawn Henderson, who helped Ferrell spruce up the pad as architect Richard Perry made renovations.
Despite the apartment’s generic cherry built-ins, drab slate wall tiles, and glass partitions, Paulin-Ferrell said, “We love history and anything with a good story and good bones. It was exciting to think the floors were once covered in ink.”
“The main task was to brighten up the place as much as possible,” Henderson added.
So to renovate Ferrell’s home, Henderson enhanced the interiors with natural materials and custom finishes, replaced the outdated baths and fully remodeled the kitchen — including fossilized-granite counters, a mottled zinc backsplash, and satin-finish lacquer cabinetry.
The loft’s current maple floors are whitewashed to add a Nordic touch and pull everything together.
