As you may or may not have noticed, Ariana Grande has been wearing a red string bracelet on her wrist a lot lately. In fact, it was first noted as a sign that she and boyfriend Big Sean–who has also been spotted wearing one–were officially a couple.
But the bracelet means more to Grande than just symbolism of her love life… It’s symbolism for her Kabbalah religion as well–a faith she turned to after the Catholic church rejected her homosexual brother Frankie Grande.
Grande opened up to the Sunday Telegraph and explained, “When my brother was told that God didn’t love him I was like, ‘OK, that’s not cool.’ They were building a Kabbalah centre in Florida so we both checked it out and really had a connection with it.”
Since then the singer hasn’t looked back, regretting nothing about leaving the Catholic church and learning more and more from the Kabbalah teaching about how to be a better person.
“My life has unfolded in a really beautiful way,” she revealed. “And I think that it has a lot to do with the tools I’ve learned through Kabbalah. I really do.”
One of the tools she learned from her faith: “You have to watch your intentions, make sure you’re not giving in to your ego. You have to numb your reactive state. You have the power to change your reality.”
She added, ”You have to take a second and breathe and reassess how you want to approach or react to a situation or approach an obstacle, or deal with a negative person in your space. That takes a lot of self-control and practice and, I guess, willpower.”
Grande shares her Kabbalah religion, which is a branch of Judaism, with other celebrities like Madonna and Demi Moore.
