It’s a countdown to Super Bowl Sunday, when millions of Americans will watch the Baltimore Ravens face off against the San Francisco 49ers in New Orleans’ Superdome.
But during breaks, interruptions and time-outs, forget the tackles and touchdowns — all attention will turn to the commercials. And despite the fact that a mere 30 seconds of advertising time during the NFL championship sells for as much as $4 million, every last bit of space is said to be sold-out for Super Bowl XLVII.
And some of that oh-so precious airtime has been snatched up by movie studios, who will unveil teasers and clips from a few of 2013′s most-anticipated movies.
Super Bowl viewers should keep their eyes peeled for these six trailers for sure — and possibly more:
While you’re sipping on Budweiser and snacking on wings, see a bloody Brad Pitt racing to stop the zombies from taking over the globe in his upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller, World War Z. Tune in to the Super Bowl spot, scheduled to run before the game, to get a look at Marc Foster‘s big-screen adaptation of Max Brooks’ book. The film hits theaters on June 20.
The Enterprise crew is back to blast off into another adventure, this time right at home on planet Earth. With a star-studded cast that includes John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana, Disney’s new J.J. Abrams-directed sci-fi flick will preview in a 30-second ad during the second quarter of the big game.
Before a ruby-slippered Dorothy wandered down the yellow brick road, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz was just ordinary. In this Sam Raimi-helmed prequel to L. Frank Baum‘s iconic novel, James Franco stars as a Southern con-artist swept into a magical land where three witches — played by Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams — wrestle to control his fate. If you missed the flick’s preview during last Sunday’s SAG Awards, keep your eyes glued to this weekend’s big game for another ad.
The Lone Ranger
No changes are to be made to this player
Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer are saddling up for the Super Bowl. During CBS’ pre-game show, Disney will air a brand-new 90-second ad for The Lone Ranger, Gore Verbinski‘s big-screen adventure about the exploits of an ex-Texas Ranger who teams up with his Native American companion Tonto to battle injustice in the American Old West. Can’t wait till Sunday? Catch the 20-second teaser of the commercial above, which the studios hopes will generate excitement in advance of the film’s July 3 opening day.
Iron Man 3
Tony Stark is coming to the small screen. During Sunday’s football final, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man will marvel sports fans with a sneak-peak of the upcoming action flick, which will open domestically on May 3. “We’re taking everything from his first gauntlet test in the first movie up through the most extreme stuff we thought up for Iron Man 2 and The Avengers and pulling on all of it and making this one big, extended challenge of physics,” Downey told Entertainment Weekly about the third installment.
Turns out, social media-savvy movie stars can spoil a surprise. As Universal stayed lips-sealed about their Super Bowl campaign, Vin Diesel revealed on Facebook that a trailer for Fast 6, the fourth installment from The Fast And The Furious franchise, will make its world debut during the big game. So, rev your engines!
