‘Skyfall’ Reclaims Top Spot at Box Office as Sony Pictures Sets New Record

The latest James Bond flick has reclaimed its place at the box office, thanks to another $20.3 million in ticket sales this weekend ($11 million in North America).

Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig, has now grossed more $918 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing film ever released by its studio, Sony Pictures, Deadline reports.

The last Sony film to reach Bond proportions was Tobey Maguire’s last Spider-Man film, Spider-Man 3, which grossed some $890 worldwide in 2007.

Stateside, Rise of the Guardians and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 rounded out the box office, with $10.5 million and $9.2 million in ticket sales, respectively.

“Nothing demonstrates the powerful word of mouth and outstanding playability on this film better than reclaiming top spot in such a competitive marketplace,” Sony Pictures said on Sunday [via Deadline].

Stephen Spielberg’s Lincoln and the big screen adaptation of the bestselling novel Life Of Piraked in $9.1 million and $8.3 million this weekend, respectively.

Gerard Butler’s latest film, Playing For Keeps, opened at No. 6 with $6.1 million.
